World Environment Day 13 – 15th July 2010 @ UNESCO

Pantai Cahaya Bulan @ 7.45 am
My first beach cleaning participation at Pantai Cahaya Bulan ;UNESCO – MPKBUMK. I have to say that the PCB Resort  is led by Mr. Maniam .( remember this is in Kelantan)

70 students 20staffs 30 MPKB workers and everyone ; bent- picked – throw(such a synchronized act)but indeed tiring. It was so good to hear them saying : Banyaknya sampah dibuang!!!...The awareness is being awaken!!! Yohoo....its that what we want? The objective of this campaign is accomplished! It was too good a experience because we came across all sorts of rubbish and it was a large amount and the beach cleaning lasted for about 1 hour along a 2 km length of shore.

The followin day:

SUNRISE....just for me! A beautiful day just to think for about the environment, environment and environment! Fully motivated and highest in energy to attend the opening ceremony and also the forum comprising a professor from the environmental field, representative from PERHILITAN and DEPARTMENT O F ENVIRONMENT. The informative forum lasted for nearly 2 hours and it gave a slight introduction about the current environmental situation including the forest status in Malaysia, awareness,  DOE’ S objectives and it was seconded with questions :

1.      * Is it fair for the less developed states in Malaysia ( Sabah and Sarawak ) to remain that way while the developed states pollute them day by day?

2.      * Define climate change and from the panel’s point of view, what is the main course of global warming?
3.       How is it possible to have a sustainable campus?

4.     *  The upcoming Jeli UMK campus is formerly from an oil plant plantation, some areas of forest and habitat for many flora and fauna. Is it correct to develop the state regardless of the wide collection of biodiversity?

5.    *   The best renewable energy for electricity usage( the most less impact to the environment)

6.    *   As a student, how to  encourage the public to car pool, use more public transportation and also cycle to work?

These question were answered in a moderately acceptable way and it the quick conclusion was to have ‘THINKING PEOPLE’  and the most important is to have analytic way of thinking besides having to understand scientist’s point of view. One should be able to analyse both sides of the plate to have a better idea about a crisis.

  1. I actually borrowed a book on "Teach yourself to think" two days ago, and I was surprised to hear the professor say about the 'Thinking people'. It's like a coincidence!
